Research and Professional Experiences
Worked as Senior Scientific Officer under Research Division of BFRI HQ (1995-96, 2005 to-date)

Major activities: Coordinating & monitoring of on-going research projects of BFRI. Planning, budgeting and evaluation of projects. Also performed international and national communications for research and research related activities. Worked as Project Director/Principal Investigator/Research Investigator with the project titles:
  1. Improvement of traditional smoked fish products of Bangladesh under grant from Ministry of Science & Information Technology, GOB. (2004-05, 2005-06)
Major activities: Identifying present status of smoked fish/shrimps in the country and improvement needed. Evaluate nutritional value of smoked products.
  1. Impact of small indigenous fish species (SIS) on livelihood of local fishing community in two Upzillas of Mymensingh under grant from WorldFish Center/USAID (Development of Sustainable Aquaculture Programme). (2003-04)
Major activities: Livelihood study of fisher groups.
  1. Impact of the use of chemicals and feed additives on fish/shrimp flesh in regard to human health under grant from Ministry of Science & Information Technology, GOB. (2002-03)
Major activities: Identifying chemicals and feed additives used in feed industries and in aquaculture practices and trial of these chemicals/feed additives on selected species under laboratory and pond conditions.
  1. "Feed & Nutrition" with the project title- Development of cost-effective feeds for brood management of carps and freshwater prawn. (1996-98)
  2. Duckweed Research Project- A technical assistance project implemented by the Ministry of Fisheries & Livestock (GOB) and supported by the Netherlands Govt. (1996-98)
  3. A detailed study leading to the development of quality fish feeds from indigenous raw materials for culture of various groups of commercially important freshwater fishes of Bangladesh. (1989-92)
  4. Survey of potential fish feed ingredients of Bangladesh on the basis of their availability and biochemical composition. (1987-89)
Major activities: Identifying potential fish feed ingredients on the basis of their availability, price and biochemical composition. Formulation and preparing a number of fish feeds for fry, fingerlings and food fish using local ingredients and trial of these feeds on selected species under laboratory and pond conditions. Feasibility study of duckweed based aquaculture both in laboratory and field conditions.

Worked as Investigator-cum-Compiler with the PL-480 funded project- Compilation of a Directory of Fisheries Research in Bangladesh. (1990-92)

Major activities: Identifying and compiling bibliographic information on fisheries research and development, scientists and research workers in Bangladesh.

Worked as Principal Investigator of the project- Socio-economic impact and constraints of shrimp culture in Bangladesh. (1991-92)

Major activities: Conducting and supervising a baseline survey work in the coastal belt of Bangladesh and preparing recommendations.Worked as Principal Investigator of the project- Development of culture techniques of tiger shrimp, Peneaus monodon in ghers. (1992-93)

Major activities: Developing traditional extensive shrimp culture practice through improved management practices.
Worked as Research Investigator with the project-Development of integrated livestock-fish-crop farming. (1993-94)

Major activities: Involved in development of fish-cum-chicken farming technology.

Worked as Research Investigator with the project- All Bangladesh coordinated adaptive research on fish and prawn culture in different agroclimatic/physiographic region of the country. (1994-96)

Major activities: Involved in dissemination of integrated and polyculture fish farming technologies in different agro-climatic region of the country through demonstration, farmers training etc.

Worked as Research Investigator with the project- Studies on the development of freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) nursery and grow-out technology. (1994-96)

Major activities: Involved in production of M. rosenbergii PL using biofilter system, nursery rearing of PL and polyculture with carps.

Develops technical publications i.e. journal, newsletter, annual report, research report, workshop proceedings, extension manuals and others through editing and designing. Also developed the interactive web site of BFRI (www.fri.gov.bd). Designed cover of about 40 technical publications. Organize and facilitates workshop/seminers to national/ international stake holders.
